  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips (for ganache)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and sugar until combined.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add sugar and mix until fluffy.
  4. Incorporate eggs one at a time into the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Gradually mix in the milk followed by the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely.
  7. For ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering and pour over dark chocolate chips; let sit for five minutes and stir until smooth.
  8. Layer cooled cakes with half of the ganache in between; pour remaining ganache over top.
