Ingredients
  

For the Grits
  • 1 cup Stone-ground grits choose high-quality grits for the best flavor and texture
  • 4 cups Water or broth using broth adds an extra layer of savory depth

For the Shrimp
  • 1 pound Fresh shrimp opt for medium-sized, peeled, and deveined shrimp

Method
 

Prepare the Grits
  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Slowly whisk in 1 cup of grits, stirring continuously until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
Add Cheese
  1. Once the grits are creamy and smooth, stir in 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese and a pinch of salt. Keep warm while you cook the shrimp.
Cook the Shrimp
  1. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Add 1 pound of shrimp, seasoned with salt and pepper, cooking until they turn pink, about 3-4 minutes.
Make the Sauce
  1. Stir in 2 minced garlic cloves and cook for another minute until fragrant. Then add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice for brightness.
Combine Everything
  1. Spoon the creamy grits into small bowls or cups and top with the shrimp mixture. Drizzle any remaining sauce over the top for extra flavor.
